Hello

Have been lurking on this site (and DFW) for a few weeks and have a question I'm hoping someone will be able to help with.

Have just transferred 3 cards (Mint, Capital One and NatWest) - totalling approx £2K onto HSBC 3.9% for 6 months. As an aside all 3 companies discovered they had 'special deals' so I should keep the card open etc - cheeky gets.

I've also checked through my credit history and had my useless-wth-money ex husband diassociated from my record.

The reason for all this is that after my interest free period MBNA have sent me a letter saying that my rate is not to be upped to 15.9% but to 24.9% (!!) and I want to transfer my balance elsewhere (obviously!).

My question is how long will it take for closing open cards and removing UWMEH from credit records to show on my credit report so I can apply for a decent rate. My credit rating should be fairly good, I don't miss payments but I did get turned down for a Halifax card earlier in the year.

Hope this makes sense.

Thanks

All depends on how quick the companies advise the CRA's. It can take anything from a few days to months. There's not too much you can too about it, but maybe advisable to get hold of your FREE credit report a few weeks after cancelling the cards to check on the status of them. If you find they haven't been updated to settled then advise the CRA of this whilst it's free. They then may get updated sooner rather than later.
  • Thanks for that - my free trial with credit expert runs out on the 30th Sept so I'll keep checking until then and go for a free trial with one of the other providers.
    Cheers
