How much to fit a new shower?

Hi, I have had a good look round , but can't see an actual price in any of the shower threads.
I'm looking for an idea of how much it should be for a straightforward removal of one shower and fitting of a new one (supplied by me).
I have had it checked by an electrician who says the power is there to the shower so the problem must be the shower.
It's just that when guys see you are a woman on your own they think they can charge any crazy amount so I'd like to have some clue.
Many thanks for taking the time to read this and any advice gratefully received.:)

Good afternoon: my OH charges the same regardless of someone's gender or marital status and I suspect most tradespersons operate in the same manner. Three quotes from plumbers recommended to you by a source you trust (many female plumbers out there by the way;)) and go from there.

  • Thanks so much for your replies and thanks to AndrewB, I was hoping to get a higher power rating but this is an excellent point.
As I said, I did get an electrician to check and he seems to think it's a straightforward in a nd out job.

i just replaced mine last week, I supplied unit and got 2 quotes - one 100 quid + vat and one 100 quid, went for 2nd one as he was nicer and in the end he charged me 90. It took him 2 hours and a bit as he had to replace a tile and put on new shower head holder.

If you're replacing an electric shower with an identical brand and model, so that no changes are required to either piping or tiling, it should be a fairly quick and easy job.

If the new shower is a different size, shape, different entry point for the water pipe, etc - that's when time and cost mount up to change things to suit the new shower.

However - you may not need to replace the whole shower. Most regular plumbers won't even think about taking it apart to fix it, and will merely recommend replacement.

What's the symptoms of the 'problem'? If power is getting to an electric shower, but it doesn't pass the water through when you switch it on, that usually indicates either a problem with the switch or the solenoid, both of which may be easily replaceable at a fraction of the cost of replacing the shower.

Wow, that's more than I was hoping, have to get a couple of quotes and hope for the best.

Googler, thanks for the advice but don't think I'd be up to the job. Shower is not lighting up when switched on and electrician advised replacing it.
