Does anybody know names of edge of town supermarkets with car parks in Southern Italy.

Wikipedia gives me a list http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_supermarket_chains_in_Italy which is pretty good.

Esselunga should. They do in the north anyway and are like a normal Sainsburys type supermarket like here as opposed to the Lidl type smaller shops. From what I remember spar and standa tend to be small and in towns. Upim is more a department store and some may have a small supermarket downstairs. Never been to Auchan or Carrefour in Italy but I would guess they'd be like the French ones so would have car parks?

Nearly every supermarket in the suburbs or out of town will have a car park. CONAD is a supermarket that I saw a lot of and it seems comparable to Tesco. If you tell us the city, or better, the comune where you're going, we could help you find somewhere?
  • It's hard to advise without knowing the desitnation because there are fewer chains with Tesco- or Sainsbury-like national coverage in Italy. I don't think you can find Esselunga, for example, in the south, nor Bennet, a hypermarket-type place I remember well.

Auchan looks to be nationwide and they advertise the facilities each store has. Go to the Punti Vendita section on their website.

Also had a look at the Conad site and they have the same details - go to Trova il suo Conad and select the Commune. Parcheggio means it has parking.
