directfireplaces Shipley and Brighouse

Options
If there was a forum for shop and drop, I would post this there !

However I would like to warn any potential buyers not to buy from this seller.

I bought a fireplace and surround including installation from direct fireplaces of Brighouse and Shipley (Also called Discount Fireplaces) . After the installation I was not happy its didn't look a quality install. Poor finishing touches and the surround wobbled, so I asked Gas Safe (formally Corgi) to inspect the installation as a third party / regulator. The GasSafe inspector condemned the fire and surround as they had cut corners with gas safety and not fixed the surround to the wall ! Also in the process of the installation the fireplace installer had to cut the carpet away (as the new surround was larger than the old one). They hacked at our £1000 carpet not using correct cutting tools and cut too much away by accident, leaving the floor boards/ underlay visible ! They said they were responsible and said their insurance would resolve. Six months later and their insurance has still not paid, as directfireplaces had a £500 excess which they refused to pay.

So you have been warned, I hope people read this who are contemplating using this supplier.

  • I have to say that you always remember the crap and never remember the good ... well I have had nothing but fantastic service from this company and will continue to promote them as a brilliant place to go.

Every now and then a company will make a mistake or screw up... they are run by humans after all! lol I say try them. then make your own mind up like i did!
  • Thanks for the post it was a heads up, I went for a quote at Direct Discount Fireplaces and fortunately searched them on google and came across this thread. I phoned 2 local gas installers who had worked for most local resellers; House of Fire and Wibsey fireplace centre and they both said avoid Discount Fireplaces as they do not pay their bills and cut costs. Safety first so I went to Wibsey Fireplaces

  • I too went to discount fireplaces/Direct fireplaces in Brighouse and it was the worst purchase I have ever experienced.

The shop staff were incompetent but when it came down to fitting/service and quality they were totally inexperienced and they too didn't fix the limestone fire surround to the wall. One awful stressful experience where I had to get another fitter to correct all the mistakes that they made.

They cut corners, cut quality and jeopardise health and safety avoid these like the plague.

Thanks for the replies, I think some replies may be linked to the companies some way.

Personally I would love it if BBC's Watchdog / trading standards or Gas safe could investigate these cowboys and close them down for good. Directors who run turn a blind eye to unsafe workmanship especially with working with GAS should be jailed (we've seen only this week what happened in Salford with the house explosions).

  • I have the most gorgeous stove and inglenook that was fitted by their chap (fully hetas/gas safe certified and have seen the certs on their website to prove it!)and it is fully working and have a picture to prove i have it should anyone need evidence of a good job! I see these complaints all the time on forums and realise that sometimes jobs have issues and go wrong... we need more people to stand up with good comments to protect the companies that dont deserve to be hounded.

boss bengal, who do you think you are trying to kid, you are associated with the failing direct fireplaces who have now closed down their shop in Shipley hurrrrrahhhhhhh. This country needs more people to stand up to poor tradesmen who employees who do not have gas safe certificates (and admitted this). The Head of Field Services for Gas safe were very quick to condemn the installation made by direct fireplaces and said if a child had bumped into the unsecure fire surround it would have collapsed and the limestone could have killed them !

I think they deserve to be hounded and closed down either by gas safe or consumers reading about previous customers experience.

Remember Mr Duffy if you had a good meal you will tell one person, if you had a bad meal you will tell ten. Learn by your mistakes and stop cutting 'safety' corners.

Their fitter are not employees they are independent fitters, who are responsible for their own work, which as i say i have not had any issues with, and neither my friends that have since used them ~(who previously had had a very bad experience with artisan who tried to rip them off chronically!!). if you have a bad experience you just go else where i understand that but they are STILL trading so cant be that bad as if as you say, ''everyone will tell ten''... they would have no customers and go under surely??

NO i am not linked, just feel it unfair when people badger companies for a mistake made as i said we all make them... EVEN YOU i would imagine!
