I am new to all this, and have just started a dmp with DFH, anyone heard of them ? what is their success. I have 28,000 of unsecured cards ect with 5 criditors, m&s, mbna, barclaycard, asda storecard and egg loan and card. Does anyone know the chances of these particular creditors coming on board ? Also my OH knows nothing of the debts, and I would like to keep it that way. I would therefore like to know the likelyhood of bailiffs, and how often letters and phonecalls come in the first few months, as I have just cancelled all direct debits and first payment to debt management co. due tomorrow.
Better to start your own thread, pkezza. I've no idea who DFH are. Check if they are charging you fees (bet they are). CCCS and Payplan do DMPs for free. Also Christians Against Poverty and Citizens Advice can help. Go with one of them instead.

Can not get car ins lower as under 25 have tried, and mobile phones are tied into a contract so cannot change at the min

    Hi moneysaver09,

the car insurance is an awful lot - £72 a month even for 2 people on it, thats £864 a year! I'm under 25 as well and mine comes in at £41 a month (less than £500 a year) fully comp with me and my OH on it, i have no NCB as its my first policy in my own name. It might be worth shopping around again or if you can put someone older on it whos been driving longer that sometimes helps.

Even if your mobiles are in contract you can still call up the provider and ask to be put down a tarriff - i did this a few months ago and it was no problem, in fact, I'd even go as far as saying they were fairly human about it all!:D the worst they can say is no its not possible but these sorts of things are always worth a shot. Same with the council, just because they say they cant pay over 12 months doesnt mean they definitely wont, explain your situation and they might be able to extend for you :)
Those that matter don't mind, and those that mind don't matter :o

You say you are moving soon. Is there any way you can move somewhere where you don't need the car as you don't use that much petrol? If you did this you would be £330 a month better off (HP costs, insurance, petrol , tax) which is over half your deficit. I know cars are a habit, but it is possible to live without one perfectly comfortably in urban areas.
