More Problems with Insurance Company...

Hi guys. More issues with my insurance company. Due to incompetant issues with my bank (who I leave at the end of this month), they have totally messed up all of my DD's. Two car insurance premiums were missed (long story. Money was in the account to pay it). I returned from holiday last night and a letter hit my mat this morning saying they (Dire Lines Insurance) have cancelled my policy as from the 18th August and demanded the remaining payments (to Nov 2010). They claim they sent me a letter on 5th Aug. I was away from the 3rd until today in Cornwall and there is no letter here from them. They claim they cannot re-instate as it has now been cancelled from the Insurance & police database etc. I told them I have been away and there is no sign of this letter and they say that it is always assumed it has been received. They want the rest of the payments of will instruct debt collectors if I don't pay within 7 days. I have no problems paying the money but not keen to as I believe they are just chasing money from me for no reason with no prospect of re-instatement. Can anyone assist? Peed me off finding out I have been driving around with my kids with no insurance. Is there anything I can do? Any help greatly appreciated.

Have you got proof that your bank mucked up your DDs?

Have you asked them for the reason? They'll be able to tell you why they're chasing you for the money.

It sound like Direct Line are charging you for the days on Cover you have not yet paid for up till the date of cancellation, unless you made a claim where the full ball would be due.

My bank has messed up my DDs for the last 6 months or so. Hence why I am leaving them. The insurance company informed me a couple of times DDs have not been met and I had discussions with the bank who vowed to sort the 'technical in-house error' out. I am now insurance-less. I am sorting the bank out but really wanted to know where I stood in regard to the insurance company's claims about not being able to re-instate the policy etc. Thank you.

If your bank's errors have caused this, then involve them.

    1) Get them to write a letter to the insurer accepting their part in this.

    2) If the insurer insists on continuing with the cancellation and being paid what they now are claiming (ie the remaider of the premium), then get your bank to pay it. (If necessary, make an official complaint to the bank, detailing all the extra cost they have put you to)

    3) Also involve the bank in sorting out a new insurer (as you could face difficulty finding a new insurer).
