car insurance etiquette

Like hundreds of other posters on here I have got my renewal in from my insurance company and it is higher than I had hoped. The galling thing is that when checking on a comparison site the same company (Tesco) quoted over £50 cheaper as a new customer.

Am I allowed to cancel my current, self renewing policy and take out a 'new' policy with the same company to get the discount?

If I attempt to negotiate by phone are they likely to drop the price or do I just have to lump it?

They are cheapest by quite a bit so even the new expensive quote isn't that much more than some of the others are charging but I want to be MSE!!

They usually realise they have been caught out and offer to match the on line quote.

Have you checked all the comparison sites to see theres anything cheaper, not sure ion your idea though as there might be a clause that says there has to be gap between ending 1 insurance and starting a new policy with the same insurer but as i said im not sure so maybe ask tesco

How much is the excess on your "new" quote?

As others has said are you absolutely certain you are comparing like for like?
Exact same mileage, values, excess etc.
Comparison sites can sometimes take default values - usually the best case from a price point of view to give you an inviting quote, so often on checking you find there is a high excess and no protected NCD etc.

If you are certain all options (legal, NCD, mileage, excess etc.) are identical then phone up tesco.
Most of this time they will back down.

They are both the same. £300.

I have relooked at the renewal figures and :o oops, i have been whinging about nothing :o

£329.70 insurance premium, replacement car £21 and breakdown cover £84 :o If I remove the breakdown cover it is a respectable £350.70 so I will go and investigate cheaper breakdown cover.

OMG I'm so thick sometimes :o:o:o
