Hi, I need some help please! I don't really know where to look for help, if there are already threads relating to the same problem and somebody could point them out to me then I would be very grateful.
My PC operates Windows. It currently has problems starting up.
When I press the power button I get a message saying
Windows did not start succesfully
and I have certain options to choose including:
Safe Mode
Safe Mode with Networking
Last Known Good Configuration
Start Windows Normally
etc.
However, regardless of which of these options I select within a few seconds the PC reboots itself again.
For example, if I select Safe Mode then the PC will start listing out various drivers and the reboots.
If I select Start Windows Normally then I get the startup Windows Screen (with the flag and the XP symbol on) and then the PC restarts.
Any help would be very gratefully received!
Regards

So it wont actually go to the logon window? Or stays at the black screen listing the drivers? You might have to format if it's not workign at all? :S0

Sounds like youll probably need the operating disc and run a repair or a full reinstall
Try this though ~ unplug ALL USB devices and try again:idea:0 -
Hi, no it doesn't get to the logon window. When I try safe mode it lists all the drivers and then it goes black and then reboots.
I have just tried unplugging the USB devices but that has no noticeable effect.0 -
Then I agree with alie that you should get the reboot disc and see if you can repair it that way, and if not you might have to format
*edit* Did you install any new drivers or programs? Or download music/movies from anywhere?0 -
Try to run the diagnostic program and check the hard drive out?
Would help if you gave the make and model so someone can point you to the way to access this.No free lunch, and no free laptop0 -
Hi, it has had the same problem for a while now so I cannot remember what I installed/downloaded. My main aim is to get all my files from it and then I may scrap the computer.
The computer was custom built for me and I don't think they gave me the reboot disk.
I cannot run any programs on the computer because it doesn't get that far.0 -
To get the files from it, you'll need to get a dock or an enclosure, so you can connect the HD to the new laptop/PC via a USB cable. It's not that expensive, maybe £10 from ebay?0

Before you go reinstalling it would be better if you worked out what the error is that's causing it to reboot (most likely a blue screen).
When it gets to the stage with the options hit F5 or F8 and you'll get more, choose Disable Automatic Restart on system failure and then let it try again. Likely it will give you a blue screen with an error and code. Probably the RAM is on the way out.0 -
Hi Zephyr, I pressed F8 and I got a blue screen.
The error code says:
STOP: 0 x 0000024 (0 x 00190203, 0 x 8A429A58, 0 x 00000102, 0 x 00000000)0 -
024 is a hard drive problem I think. No free lunch, and no free laptop0
