Quote-Rendering a Detached House

Options
Hi, Hope someone can help. We have a 3 bedroomed detached house which is pebble dashed and painted over white. We now want a smooth finish. We have had a quote for a special render called
K-Rend which uses a silicone base and comes in a coloured finish, house will never need repainting, any dirt is hosed off. The quote is £8,300, we need scaffolding and this will be extra, probably another £1400 for 3 weeks. We are also considering a sand and cement render finish and then being painted, no quotes yet to compare as builders very slow getting back to us!

Has anyone had this - would you recommend - does quote sound reasonable. Many thanks.

thanks for reply but don't have to be offence - I've got plenty of gorm thanks. I answer plenty of people on forums but don't get off on insulting them. It is not ordinary rendering - it claims to last 30 years and never need painting again - that is why I'm putting it on this forum hoping that someone else has had it - Did you read my post fully or were you just too quick to want to insult someone - get some specs!!!

I''ll do 130 metres for £4K, however it wouldn't be K Rend. Just good old sand and cement. K-rend is an exellent product, however bare in mind that if its been up say 5 years and colour weathers and you manage somehow to damage an area you will find it difficult to match the repair without it showing.
Below is a picture of the finish you'll get for £4K

Many thanks Plasterer - I did realise after that this was his normal signature so maybe I was being too sensitive. Then again, why have such a negative sign off ? Thanks for the info re K-rend and your work looks fantastic - still thinking it all through. cheers

Looks great - I've been recomended K rend by a local plasterer because we have really porous calcil bricks - what do you think?? It's tempting to go down the sand and cement route because it's loads cheaper but not if it's going to blow a couple of years down the road.
Target of wind & watertight by Sept 2011 :D

wems -- it may last 30 years it may last 50 years it may last 5 years-- all depends on how much care plasterer takes.

his facts are wrong - it comes in your desired colour, but yes after few years you have to paint it like any other wall

good thing with k rend or webber is that they prety much waterproof and stronger than sand and cement .... the first layer is called RENDAID and is actually the best glue to apply in old or new walls..applied with brush or trowel and if you leave it 24 hours is rock solid.
a bit expensive i would say .. try negotiating to 6500-7000 .. not all plasterers can do it ... it needs a proper flat surface to look good in sunshine:rotfl: sunshine shows too much waves on k rend if its not flat, unlike sand and cement

sand and cement if applied 2 good coats and applied with right propotion of sand cement and lime is a solid rendering too
as a plasterer i would prefer sand cemengt and lime ...get a good one not on the cheap and you ll be proud of your house for half the price 1 ton of sand = 45 quid--- you likely to need 3-4 tons and some cement and 3 bags of lime

ps; if your walls are in a bad state insist for the first layer to be rendaid(about 15 bags) then sand and cement for finishing coat .. accepted from the manifacturer , no problem
