I don't know about the Government releasing info about mortgage etc but I do know that it looks like data is being sold openly on some forums. I would suspect this is how the CMC got hold of "your" personal information.
Even complaining to the MOJ about it is worthless as I was told by MOJ that I could have had a loan anytime in my life that had a clause in the agreement that said my data "could" be passed about OR I actually ticked a box to say it could. I would never be able to prove otherwise TBH but it is wrong and something needs doing.
As regards what you are being told about your reclaim I would be very wary at using any CMC for any type of claim as there are lots of scammers out there waiting to get hold of your money and doing nothing with your claim (collecting more data from you to sell maybe) and also most claims for Mortgage PPI are difficult to reclaim unless they were single premiums.
I am sure dunstonh will be along to give you some input on this one also.0 -
Thanks for the replies.
I am so wary of people phoning me re monies etc. This particular person told me they worked on behalf of the MOJ and gave me their company CRM number to check them out on the internet but
to be honest it doesn't mean anything to me so thought I would ask for some advice from all you switched on people.0 -

Mortgage PPI is not held on any public register and the Govt has no involvement whatsoever in the sale of insurance products (or mis-sale). There has been no review of MPPI or requirement to review MPPI. Indeed, MPPI is bascially the only PPI that has really not suffered the same issues as loan and credit card PPI.
If a claims company have data on you like that then they have obtained it by fraudulent means. Its a clear data protection breach somewhere.
As marshallka says, claims companies do have ways of obtaining it (which are unlawful). They can buy it from ex staff who have left with their records. Many claims companies have been formed out of failed mortgage advisers.
As is increasingly obvious, claims companies tell lies. The MoJ did actually produce a list of common lies spread by claims companies and told them to stop using them. One of them was to stop giving the impression they were representing the Govt or a regulatory body. You have clearly been called by a dodgy claims company who are happy to tell you lies and have information obtained fraudulently. Dont fall for the scam.
With MPPI, if you pay monthly premiums from your current account and you were eligible at point of sale then a complaint will nearly always be rejected. If its single premium MPPI (no excuse for that) or you were not eligible at point of sale then they are easy complaints to make where you would expect an upheld decision. MPPI is really that simple. (you cant complain about not being qualified or not knowing your needs as most are sold under an advice process and have a factfind and needs analysis and sold by an authorised individual - That may work with loans and credit cards but not MPPI).I am an Independent Financial Adviser (IFA).
