cavity wall ins - does it make a mess?

We are having cavity wall insulation installed next month and the man said to me to cover everything in dust sheets (he has to install it from the inside of the house due to cladding on the outside). Has anyone had it installed this way? Does it make a horrible mess?

It involves drilling several holes in the wall in each room, every hole makes some dust, it's not horrendously messy but you will probably find bits of gritty dust for months afterwards.
Ask if the man can use a vacuum cleaner with a dust collection attachment while drilling, or dustbubbles.
You might also get dribbles of sticky foam on carpets and obviously the holes have to be plastered up afterwards.A kind word lasts a minute, a skelped erse is sair for a day.0 -
All I can tell you is when my neighbour had it done filled from the outside it made a mess all over my back garden, not happy I can tell you. It also took a couple of days and was very noisy, would have been nice to have been forwarned I could have made plans to be out.0

Had mine done from the outside; two blokes, a ladder, a huge drill and a very long hose from their truck which had all the 'gubbins' in. Their compressor made no more noise than the people who come and clean the neighbours' carpets. It took half a day to do a large detached bungalow. There was very little mess although the dust from drilling holes had to be swept up afterwards. None of my neighbours were affected (I asked).
That said, I wouldn't like to have it done from the inside. Why can't they drill through the cladding outside? It might mean a bit more effort disguising the holes afterwards, but I'd rather do that than have all the dust sprayed inside my home!
Are you sure your contractor isn't just going for his easiest option? The blokes who did my place had a drill-bit that was 2' long - surely big enough to get through the cladding as well as the wall underneath.0 -
The guys who did our place drilled straight through the electric cables! Lucky to be alive! We have plug sockets in the garage-and he drilled directly above the sockets--the company did put it right eventualy--
but good luck with it!I might be crazy but I'm not stupid....0
