New VW Polo
Thinking of buying the 2010 1.4 SE model, new.
Whatcar? suggests a purchase price of £12,400. You can also add 3 year's servicing for £250 at purchase.
Does anyone have any experience of owning this car? Are there any other good deals on it either on line or through a dealer?

I thought VW were advertising the Polo at £10k - does the additional £2.4k cover worthwhile extras? I've always hated the look of VWs but everyone seems to rave about them. Having hired one for a week over the summer, I can understand why: they are a great drive and v. fuel efficient. Still damn ugly though!
Normally new cars are serviced at 3 years / a certain mileage eg 30,000 (whatever comes first) so IMO the fee is only worth it if you intend to rack up the mileage.Value-for-money-for-me-puhleeze!

the 3 years servicing is worth it...
VfM- the servicing is done every 12months.. leave it too long and the warranty ends up being screwed..Sealed pot challenger # 10

There's plenty of New Polos on the hire car fleets at the moment. You could hire one for a few days to make doubly sure you like it.The man without a signature.0

Coincidentally was walking past the Northampton VW dealer yesterday, they had a sign on a small hatch of theirs (coudn't tell you which model they all look the same) which offered first 3 years servicing free.
Seems a lot of money for a little car with three years warranty.0 -
You should see if there are any tests drives for over a weekend on one, near a dealer by you.
A VW approved garage around by us has a 'Day test drive' offer at present, unsure on the terms but maybe something similar near you!0 -
Thanks.
I will pop into the dealer next week for more info.
As I'll be buying cash I expect to get a reasonable deal out of them. I'd be changing the car after 3 years anyway and the whatcar says residual value is 47%, meaning that the cost of ownership for the three years is £6.8k. This seems reasonable. The other option would be a Toyota, but the resale on them isn't as good.0 -

My local Nissan dealer tells me that cash buyers are at no greater than those buying on finance - apparently the FSA has made some ruling that folk that require credit cannot be disavantaged. I'd be interested to hear your experience.Value-for-money-for-me-puhleeze!

Cash buyers can sometimes be at a disadvantage. For example:
Cash buyer with £10k to spend = £10k
Credit buyer wanting £10k of credit to spend + £400 commission from HP company = £10,400The man without a signature.0 -
If you are a cash buyer with no trade in present the dealer with the drivethedeal rpice and get them to match it and throw in the servicing.
If they won't go to drivethedeal - buying through them is painless and you don't spend hours in a showroom arguing over £20 of fuel!0
