Pylon up the bill...

Hi all,

Presently I'm living in fear of a huge whopping great electricity bill dropping through my letter box, even though I have tried without success to resolve the matter. I'm hoping someone here can help direct me to where I can go next for advice or a resolution.

My problem started when I switched supplier (dual fuel) from Grittish Bas to Sweb in Feb 2005, all went well and the direct debits set up without a hitch. However SWEB converted to EDF this year and althogh my gas account is fine, I noticed that the electricity bill contained only a summary of credit and no electricity usage, also this credit total hasn't increased since March this year. I checked my bank account and SWEB/EDF stopped collecting the direct debit payments from my bank account.

I have contacted EDF (which is a nightmare of waiting on the end of the telephone for at least 30 mins to be connected to an adviser) numerous times to ask what is happening to my account, and I'm met with the same rsponse each time. They confirm they have stopped collecting payments because we don't seem to be using electricity, (I have pointed out that the meter is read monthly) and they say they will investigate it further and contact me by telephone or in writing but it is likely I will receive a large bill. The last time this happened was three weeks ago and I haven't heard anything again. I'm worried and wonder if there is anything else I can do to encourage them to sort my account out before I end up with a bill I can't afford to shell out for?

Frugaldiva.

Have you checked you meter to check for useage?

Contact Energywatch for help & advise - they're slow but you supplier will sit up and take notice once you involve them.

    Good Luck
  • Sure, the meter is ticking over nicely.

Would suggest then that you ring through the meter reading, they will then send you a bill based on this reading. You may get a large bill, but you can always pay it back monthly with direct debit.

Still worth contacting energywatch & seeing if they can offer advice.

    Best of luck.
