DVD recorder - changing hard drive

Have a Panasonic DMR-HS2 DVD recorder with a hard drive. Excellent piece of kit. The downside is that it only has 40Gb hard drive. I assume it is a standard hard drive that is used in computers etc. Is it possible to change it to a larger hard drive size. Have heard that the software within the unit only recognises up to 40 Gb so installing a 100Gb i can only use 40Gb.
Any ideas?
