Recycling laptops

Options
Following on from Martin's email this week I was wondering about www.weeebuy.co.uk and whether it was worth selling my old laptop to them (or anyone else). My main concern would be the secuity of the information on my laptop. Any thoughts?

Secondly if it is ok to do - how do I find out what processor I have? The sticker on my laptop says AMD Athlon and when I go into system properties it says "mobile AMD Athlon(tm) XP" but the options for Sony Vaio's on weebuy.co.uk are:
AMD: Sempron, Athlon 64
AMD: Athlon X2, Turion X2
AMD: Duron, Opteron

Should I assume that mine are none of these?

Thanks!

they only offer aprox 75% of the second hand value...some second hand shops will give you nearly that.
Data deletion just format the hd(full format, then reinstall windows) or remove HD.

would assume yours is the first option...if unsure get spec from sony website.

Chuffing hell. I'd offer you more than they are. There has been an upsurge in immigrants* buying used laptops in serious numbers and shipping them abroad and making some nice money due to the low value of the £. I reckon this is one of these companies.

*Not meant detrimentally and best of luck to them. None British born people who have come to live in the UK, usually African and shipping to S.African states.

Thats guys - The one of the ports is definitely broken and I seem to remember that the USB port may have been dodgy as well.... I assumed that noone would want it...

How do I formatthe HD? I have moved everything I want off it onto an external harddrive already.

I'd take the HDD out, keep it, and put the laptop, if it has faults, on eBay as a 'spares/repair' machine.

I'd hazard a guess that eBay would better the maximum of £115 that they seem to be offering on Sony laptops..... even as a spares/repair.

The sure way of keeping your HDD data secure is to keep your HDD.
