Why are the quotes dearer if a single driver?

I am looking to renew my car insurance and as we have 2 cars my husband and myself are named on each car.
Thinking about it i thought i would knock my husband off my insurance to cut cost, but this is not the case and they are in fact dearer!!
Why is this?

Because the risk is spread when there's more than one driver. Averages can be better than single facts: age, driving experience, no of points/accidents and so on.I was born too late, into a world that doesn't care
Oh I wish I was a punk rocker with flowers in my hair0 -
Thanks for your quick reply.
He has more driving experience and he is older but as for claims etc he has had more( In fact i have not had a claim, touch wood!)
But your explaination makes sense.
Thanks again.0 -
my experience is different (sort of).........
There is a gender divide, we’re both north of 50 but on my group 20 car adding my OH (two claims in the last three years, one fault, one non fault) reduced my premium by 10% ish. The only claim I’ve ever made was a theft claim in 1978 and I have a clean licence.
Irritatingly adding me to her policy (ordinary 2l saloon) increased her premium it so it appears that women who have a habit of getting involved in accidents are less of a risk then men with perfect driving records. Go figure....0
