Starting up on eBay

Hi guys,
I registered for an eBay account a couple of weeks ago, and I want to take advantage of the 5p listing day today.
At the moment, I still have 0 feedback, and a couple of the items I want to sell are of a larger value than general nick-nacks, including a guitar (around £100 hopefully!).
How can I persuade buyers that I'm not a con-man (due to having 0 feedback as a new member) and maximise the amount of money I can make from my first sales?

Probably best to buy a few items first and build up some feedback first, probably not what you want to hear if you want to list today but thats the best way to get buyers trust. Its also a good idea to start with lower value items and work up, good luck. Nothing to stop you giving it a try today though just be careful with buyers some scammers see new sellers as soft targets.0

Very good point! I've actually noticed this about five times since yesterday and thought to myself "ah, so I can't take part in that anyway" but keep forgetting!
FloFlo - I don't have the money to spend on items at the moment - that's why I'm trying to sell :rotfl:No longer visiting these forums.0 -
Then all you can do is sell your smaller items first.
Use Auctiva (so you get the free scrolling gallery in your listing to promote your other items), and sell some CDs or something.
Try and be uber-nice to your punters to encourage some nice feedback.
You could even put in your listing that your a new seller and you hope this doesn't put people off.
Failing that, post your ID up and we'll have to take pity on you and buy something
It's BOUGHT (to Buy), not BROUGHT (to bring) AND you cannot be frauded, only DEfrauded.
Please do not buy animals from a pet store. Visit your local sanctuary or centre and give a good home to an unloved or abandoned animal.0 -

Cheap listing days happen fairly regularly anyway, so there will probably be another one along after you've built up a suitable feedback score. Good luck!0

Hi Lewis
I started very recently on ebay too. Have been selling low value items to get feedback, which so far has been 100% positive. Once I got to 10, I suddenly had a flurry of sales including a few at higher value. I'm hoping the trend will continue!! Have several books listed on Amazon, but not a peep out of anyone there, so I still have zilch feedback there. Also tried ebid and tazbar - not even a viewing! So keep trying ebay. Good luck.0 -
word of advice for anyone as dumb as me - never underestimate postage charges!! sold my 1st item on ebay last wk - some books, guestimated them to be about 2.5 kg (was pretty close - 2.3 to be exact) checked royal mail website, price for 2kg £5.31, price for 4kg £7.70, so i figured mine would cost undeer £6 and priced accordingly, didn't realise the prices were for UP TO *kg, not a sliding scale, books sold for 8.30 total, £7.71 when ebay took there cut, so with £7.70 postage charges i made a massive PENNY PROFIT!! :rotfl:Wiggly:heartpulsFB0
