URGENT SOS - live travel insurance drama

All

My girlfriend and I were robbed in central america and our passports taken. Obviously we can't leave the country until they are recovered or replaced.

The police & legal team have asked us to remain in the town as they have suspects and think they may be able to recover some stuff, which they want us to identify.

In an effort to mitigate our losses and avoid further costs for replacements we are staying on while they wait for a search warrant.

This delay is costing us extra in hotel & living costs which I would like to claim on my travel insurance. Unfortunately the insurance companies phone operators don't seem to know anything about insurance?!! Or the name of someone who does!!!

Has anyone come accross this limbo before and if so how was it resolved?

Cheers
Noisie

What info does it give in the travel docs you have with you or were they taken as well?

Feudal Britain needs land reform. 70% of the land is "owned" by 1 % of the population and at least 50% is unregistered (inherited by landed gentry). Thats why your slave box costs so much..

Have you called the emergency number on your travel docs.
Have your travel docs been stolen?

I always take a copy of my policy (double sided, 2 sides to a page) so that I can see what I'm covered for.
I did this after spending a lot of money phonning the insurers from abroad out of hours. There wasn't anyone there out of office hours to answer a policy query.
Obviously if they've been stolen then that plan is screwed up.

Do you have someone in the UK (family or friend) that could phone around and deal with this for you and then get back to you.
They might be in a better posistion to phone around.

If you say which insurer we may well be able to find policy info on the web.
