  • Before you commit yourself have a read of this http://www.retellrecorders.co.uk/legal/home.htm

"The interception, recording and monitoring of telephone calls is governed by a number of different pieces of UK legislation. The requirements of all relevant legislation must be complied with. The main ones are:

Regulation of Investigatory Powers Act 2000 ("RIPA")
Telecommunications (Lawful Business Practice)(Interception of Communications) Regulations 2000 ("LBP Regulations")
    Data Protection Act 1998
Telecommunications (Data Protection and Privacy) Regulations 1999
    Human Rights Act 1998
It is not possible to provide comprehensive detail of that legislation here. Any person considering interception, recording or monitoring of telephone calls or e-mails is strongly advised to seek his/her own independent legal advice and should not seek to rely on the general information provided below. It should be borne in mind that criminal offences and civil actions may occur when the relevant legislation is not complied with. Accordingly, Ofcom accepts no liability for reliance by any person on the following information."

If you have a tape recorder, Maplin have some leads (see HERE).

    If you haven't, see HERE.

And, before the "you can't do that unless......" brigade arrive, the link below might be of use:

Time has moved on (much quicker than it used to - or so it seems at my age) and my previous advice on residential telephony has been or is now gradually being overtaken by changes in the retail market. Hence, I have now deleted links to my previous 'pearls of wisdom'. I sincerely hope they helped save some of you money.

If you have a voice modem on a PC attached to the same line there are a number of software applications which will record the call (inc. "Call Corder").

    Couple of ideas,

    Here

    And HERE

There is another one that you dial an 0871 number, and it informs the called person that the conversation is being recorded, and you have access to it later, but I can't find it.

Problem with that one is that you would still need your own recording system to enable you to play it back, as it does not appear to have any other facility.

  • Hello,

You can get a Sony ICDP320 Digital Dictation Machine at Argos, on sale for half price at the moment for £24.99 http://www.argos.co.uk/static/Product/partNumber/6702144.htm

This is handy to record both telephone calls and meetings in person.

To record telephone calls, you need to plug in a special earbud into the ear that you are placing the telephone against, usually cost £10 and you can find them at your local tech shop. It looks just like an earbud, but it has a mic in it and feeds into the machine you are using to record. You place the earbud into your ear, and the earbud hears the same information that you are hearing...

    Good luck!

I can record calls on one mobile by pressing about 3 keys, and its available online.

I've told one company that a preliminary announcement on its agent's call system says calls may be monitored for training and quality purposes, and I intend to interpret that as them giving me permission to do so.
