    Get a decent alarm system.

    Or a dog.

I never ever lock my doors at night, but if someone dared to even touch the window, the dog would bark and bark until told to stop.

The OP already had a dog; a great dane in the garden; not sure it would be a good guard dog though .. ha ha :rotfl:

When I started to read at first I thought maybe the Bag for Life had done it's job!
But it's not a laughing matter and my heart goes out to the OP. I've never had this happen but it's one of the things I dread. I do hope you regain the sense of peace and safety in your home soon.

You are right, its not a laughing matter; just couldn't resist when a dog was mentioned.

Hope you get it sorted OP its not something I would like to happen to me; you don't seem to be having much luck lately x
  • We have an alarm that we can put on whilst inside the house and have the option with a sensor but dont generally have this on as we have a dog. Its only ever gone off once when we were away and the alarm calls us then 3 other people on our list in turn. You have the option to disconnect over the phone or it has to be done manually.

It is a Yale one and cost £99 from Argos last year (usually £300+) and we got a big chunk off our insurance premium, so within 2 years it would pay for itself.

  • About the car situation and people taking keys up to their room, I know of three people with expensive cars, who have been broken into just because they wanted the car keys. One woman awoke to find two men in her bedroom looking for her handbag to find the keys. I now leave my keys downstairs in a prominent position because I value mine and my daughters life over my car... they are welcome to it.

:rotfl: I'm not sure the OP will be able to face a dog ...

Not all dogs are that much use. Chap I know went out to get the paper one morning, having accused his wife of leaving the inner front door open overnight (at that stage they weren't locking their outer porch door.) Came back to find police at a neighbour's door, police asked if he'd seen or heard anything overnight as there seemed to have been several break-ins.

Only then did they realise that their house HAD been broken into, one of their lads was sleeping in the lounge rather than upstairs and it is possible they saw him there and decided to move on. But the dog had not made a sound, even though he was downstairs too!

We also had dogs who might lick you to death ... nothing more than that.

Definitely worth improving security promptly though. If they come back and find it's harder, they're more likely to move on than if you've done nothing.
