xp media centre edition 2005

i boughta pc with xp media centre edition. I did windows update to download all the latest stuff for it. When i try to set up the media centre, it sets up stuff 1 at a time until it gets to my speakers. It trys to test my speakers but then the program crashes when i press "test". I have creative inspire t3030 speakers and they do work with the pc as i have tested them with other applications. Any ideas why it crashes?

Comments

  • i dont have a dedicated sound card, just on board sound from the motherboard. I have updated this and still no luck. I get an error message about ehshell.exe
  • You should not be having these problems as the company you bought the machine from should check that everything is supported in MCE2005.

MCE2005 has a very crappy HCL (Hardware Compatibility List). Can you open up event viewer (Start -> Run -> type 'eventvwr'), see if you have any error types for this and do a screenshot of the information please (alt + Print Screen)

    Let me Know
  • the company i bought the pc from told me to reinstall xp from scratch, he told me that it was caused by some files missing and that a fresh reinstall should fix everything.

I am currently at work so when i get homwe in the evening i will run the event viewer.

When checking the event viewer do i need to wait foer the crash and then run it, or at anytime?

You can run the eventvwr at anytime. If should have logged when your pc crashed or check the last time it booted up. Just before that time should be the error messages.
