I am using Goolge translate to be able to read a website that is in Polish. The annoying problem I have it that Google translator automatically translates it to Spanish - which is as much use as Polish to me. How do I set Google translate to automatically translate to English?

Nah, it's not that portion of Google translate. It's the automatic page translation when you load a foreign site.

Mine doesn't automatically do it, instead it asks me if I want to do it.

http://translator.worldclockr.com/ I recommend this translator its free and brilliant, type in English and it will give you the Polish, or copy & paste Polish and it will give you the English, also many other languages

Google translate works fine. When the Polish page loads after a few seconds it is all miraculously translated. The problem for me is that it is translating to Spanish. But "No entiendo español" - I need English. All I need to do is find some hidden setting somewhere that set's it to auto translate to English rather than Spanish.

I have found the answer myself. It is hidden away in the Google Toolbar. If anyone wants to know how to do it....

Right click on translate in the Google toolbar, Translate options, half way down the pop-up page set the language to automatically translate into.
