Has the credit card company forgotten me??

I have (had previously) a credit card debt about 3 or 4 years ago, at the time they agreed a token amount to pay, I think it was about £10 per month, I paid this for a few months, was on benefit and studying full time at uni and with things going on at the time I soon forgot to make the payments and they havent been in contact since! I am still at the same address (been here over 10 years) and im obviously still on file somewhere....SO what should I do!?? If I contact them they might say I owe a fortune. Would they accept an offer? that wasnt a direct question as obviously you dont have a crystal ball, but does anyone know of cases where they would and what kind of percentage should I hope for. I am still on benefit (as I havent found a job after finishing uni). I am just concerned it will all come back to haunt me, at some stage in the future I will need to get a mortgage or maybe need credit for something.
Hopefully you can help or put me in touch with someone who can.

Hi there. I'm no expert in this but what I could suggest rather than ringing the credit card company now is if you get your own credit report from experian or equifax both of them have free trial for a month so instantly you could see if you still owe from them.Who knows it might have been written off which is highly unlikely. But prepare yourself for the worst. These companies don't really forget but at times they commit their own mistakes. Good luck.0

As you are on benefits you will probably have no money left over to pay creditors and a nominal offer of £1 per month would seem appropriate. However if you wait for them to contact you and you don't hear from them for 6 years the debt is unrecoverable.
In England, Wales and N. Ireland, there is a time limit, usually six years, on starting legal action to claim money owed.
The time limit runs from either the date when the money was first owed, or from the last time the debt was acknowledged by the debtor, or from the last time a payment was made.
If a debtor, contacts a creditor and acknowledges the debt within the six years, the six years (five years in Scotland) will run from the date of the letter.
The six-year time limit starts running again if any kind of enforcement action is started.0 -
