Car insurance query

My DD is buying a new car tomorrow. She has organised with her current insurers to be covered for this car but the certificate has arrived today and the cover on the new car is from 01.01 am tomorrow.

She has to take her old car into the garage tomorrow morning.

Am I right in thinking that I will be able to drive her old car there under my fully comp insurance. My certificate states " The policyholder may also drive, subject to the owners permission, any other motorcar which does not belong to him/her"

Someone has told her I can't as she has no insurance on it and I'm sure this is wrong.

There's usually a bit of an overlap between the two cars isn't there.

Someone much cleverer and more clued up on insurance will be along in a moment, but I know that to drive another car on your policy third party, that it DOES NOT have to be insured. You may however run into problems with it being your wifes though. I would just give the insurers (your wifes) a ring in the morning and ask them.

davemorton, Sorry, it's my daughters car and I'm the mother.

Sandoval, there is usually an overlap or always have been when we've swapped over but daughter aged 19 has sorted all this out herself without asking us for any help or advice. I can only assume that she hasn't told her insurers that she needs to take her old car in the garage in the morning!

I would think there would be yet another admin fee if she has to ring them to add cover back onto her old one until say lunchtime to cover her current car.

With my insurnce there is a 7 day overlap.
Ring the isnurance company first just to make sure, there shouldnt be any charge.
make the most of it, we are only here for the weekend.
and we will never, ever return.

I think the 01.01 is a typing error as generally to start a policy on a specific date in the future without you stating what time you want, Insurers tend to start cover at 00.01 which if it has tomorrow's date on it means it starts at 1 minute past midnight tonight

It depends on the individual policy, so it should be checked to make sure. It never used to be, but for the last couple of years my policy has specifically stated that the other car must be insured in its own right.
If you lend someone a tenner and never see them again, it was probably worth it.

Why not ask her what the insurers said?

When I last changed my car earlier this year, both were covered for the whole day of the change over in case there were any delays on the handover time. So cover on the new one started at 00.01hrs.

If she's not sure get her to ring the insurers and ask them to clarify if they're open Saturday.

Can't see it on my policy. Oh well, best thing is to ring up and double check. When will teenagers learn that it would be much easier with some things if they just checked first!

Will get her to do that. She could have done it tonight after work but was in a rush to go out! Would have made my life easier.

You say that the insurance starts at 01.01 am. That is one minute past one o'clock in the morning so I dont see a problem. Or am I missing something.
