Car Insurance -£850 pa is it a good price?

I have full clean BrItish license with 5 years no claim. The best car insurance quote I have got so far is in excess of £850 pa. I am looking for a third party insurance just to fulfill the legal requirement (my experience with insurance providers is they never pay when you need it).
Will just like some advise before I buy insurance. Will just like to know how does this quote compares with what others are paying.

Compared to what?
Compared to what I pay for my car, its expensive. Compared to a 17 year old in an inner city its dirt cheap.my experience with insurance providers is they never pay when you need it
What are you doing wrong then?I am an Independent Financial Adviser (IFA). The comments I make are just my opinion and are for discussion purposes only. Back in 2006 I had an insurance for £160 pa. Had been overseas for a while. The price looks much higher to what I was getting 4 years ago. Just wanted to explore what an average experienced driver (inner city) is paying.0

How does that explain the view that insurers never pay when you need it?0

Third party only (and TPFT) cover is often more expensive than comprehensive. Try selecting comp cover and elect to take a higher voluntary excess (say £500) to see what that does to the premium. NB: The excess is only payable if you claim for damage to your own vehicle.
Cost does seem high with 5 years NCD but there could be other factors you will need to clarify.
- Any convictions in the last 5 yrs?
- Age
- Occupation (DJ, actor, turf accountant and several others are pretty high).
- Any claims in last 3 yrs? I know you have 5 years NCD but this could be a protected bonus.
- Type of vehicle. £850 for a porsche would be cheap, very expensive for a Ford Ka.0 -
Thanks for the responses.
I figured out the issue
. It has to do with the post code. I put a different post code (out of city) and get a £240 quote. I live in Manchester and current post code gives me a whooping £8500 -
