Cat seems to have blood clot on her lung..

she had a stroke last year (she was already in the vets because her insulin was being changed over), she survived that, but last night she started doing funny pacing around the room, walking in a strange way. then she started panting and salivating, so took her to the emergency vet (not my normal vets), then this morning they asked me to come and get her and take her to my vet but she wasnt right still. by the time i got to my own vets, she was still panting, laying funny.

the vet feels its another clot and possibly on her lung which now has fluid in it, hence the panting and salivating. she is on a blood thinner, valium, in an oxygen tent and they are clearing out her lungs. im not holding out much hope of survival.

my vet said that if she thought that she was in so much distress that she had to be put down, its her method that she does this first, then phones the owner, because she doesnt want to spend time doing that whilst the animal is in distress. i understand this but worry that i'll get a call in the middle of the night to say that my cat has already been pts

in addition im upset that the 'emergency' vet didnt seem to give her much treatment last night, she didnt even have her glucose levels measured this morning until i asked if she had been given her insulin. i was told that they hadnt given her blood thinners.

Sorry to hear about your little one :(

Ive no experience of this, but just wanted to say hope she gets better.

Im sure you could ask your vet (if you wanted it this way) if the worst comes, to call you first so you can say your goodbyes. Im only round the corner from my vets, so could be there in 2 mins. Dont know your situation. I dont think this should be her method personally. It should be on a case by case situation IMHO!!
I know my spelling is shocking  It is alot better than it used to be though :rotfl:

Only just read this and have no advice but I hope you and moggy are okay.

I really hope that you didnt get that call but it does sound like your cat has gone through the mill with this and sometimes, we have to do what is kind for them.

I hope your cat is able to recover. I think the above most unstaisfactory myself. If they thought my dogs were that ill I'd want to be with them & certainly wouldn't want them "dieing alone".

    Good luck.

thank you for your comments. she died saturday morning. she was put in a sort of oxygen tent as her breathing was bad on the friday afternoon, throughout saturday morning she seemed to be getting better according to the vet, she checked on her at about 6.30am ish and seemed very good, then she checked about half hour later and she had just stopped breathing. im devastated, cant stop crying etc. ive had the ashes back today in a sort of picture frame thing with a picture of her in it.

im so upset about the emergency vet, they only gave her a painkiller on the thursday night, no blood thinners or anything. i feel she might have more of a chance if they'd done this. my own vet said that she took some xrays and they showed all the blood clotted up, it wasnt flowing (this was friday afternoon, they had started to treat her with thinners by then)

i cant help thinking about how i saw her on friday afternoon when i went to visit her, even though she was completely out of it on sedation, she was trying to talk to me like she normally does, it must have been such an effort for her because she couldnt breath properly
