I was going to look for a beneficiary in South Africa some years ago - took solicitors advice on how hard to look and it comes down to how much he is going to get (in this case £7k).

We were told that its not worth looking and as he had not been in touch with the family for 20 years, I divvyed up without him.

I think there is an insurance policy executors can get to protect them against a beneficiary turning up and demanding their share after everything has been sorted out.

Keep records of what was done to try to contact the person to show an effort was made at the time.
