Blank screen with flashing underscore on Acer laptop

Hi, my Acer laptop was turned on today and the load up screen comes up then goes to a blank screen with a flashing underscore at the top left habd corner.

Does anyone have any ideas as to what the problem is and if there is a fix for it?

Restart the computer. Keep hitting F2 as soon as it starts. It should enter into the BIOS setup. You need to look in there to see if your hard drive is listed within.

    An example: bios.jpg

Model number of laptop? Restart and hit F8 continually whilst starting up. Hopefully you can choose Last Known Good Configuration (your most recent settings that worked)

  • My GF said that she plugged her ipod in this morning after just turning it on and without going to any desktop, could that have caused a problem?

Might be the hard drive has come unconnected .
If it isnt under guarantee or anything, you could turn it all off and remove the battery then unscrew the cover over the drive and check it is firmly connected.
Also check the memory sticks are still properly seated .
