DFS stain insurance

I bought a leather suite from DFS back in January this year.
I should probably say that I'm more than happy with it and the whole process of buying it and getting it delivered.
Anyway we took out the stain insurance (£145 for 5 years) and at the time we were told it covers just about everything.
Today Mrs S decided that a Veet waxing strip would look good on it  and as it was brand new and unused it left a nice strip of very sticky goo on the cushion.
I wasn't too worried and phoned DFS only to be told that it wasn't covered and to look on the back of the sales contract for a list of exclusions. They said they would come out and look but there would be a charge if any materials were involved but should be covered by my home insurance. To be honest I didn't even realise that it was on the back of the contract but apparently it comes under the heading of adhesives.
I'd suggest that anyone thinking of taking out the extra insurance thinks twice and asks to see in writing exactly what is covered before signing for it because it isn't what they say it is.
I'm seriously thinking now that this may come under the heading of mis-sold
Oh and just for the record it came off with the aid of a steam iron and blotting paper lol thank heavens for Google :T

Unfortunately this happened to us too. It was about 5 years ago and I cant remember what the stain was (think it may have been hair dye). Anyway, called them up and it wasn't covered  What's the point in paying for an insurance scheme if they have exclusions. I had some leather cleaner and managed to get it out myself.0 -

After my dealings with DFS in the past, I'd say that the moral of the story is: never buy from DFS, and if you do, don't ever expect them to help you should anything go wrong...
Glad you got it sorted yourself though!0 -
I've got this cover for my sofa and chair from DFS.
The list of exclusions covers just about every stain you could get.
Total waste of my money.0 -
Brazilian sofa now, is it?DFW Nerd 0350

Ive heard this before. A few people i know had a terrible job getting them to come out and look at the stain and even fix it. They seem to have clauses covering everything. It's not worth taking the insurace out.0

I had the same problem with DFS. Me and my Mum purchased sofa's at the same time. I was offered the same insurance, which I stupidly accepted. The sales person never advised me of the exclusions, and sold it to me on the impression that it was accidental insurance. About a year after receiving my sofa, my dog jumped up and sctatched the leather! I called DFS, to be told this was not covered. I complained as I was mis sold the insurance, and I received a full refund, after threating them with the small claims court. The insurance they offer is rubbish, very limited coverage, so much exclusions, total scam! The views expressed on this website, be they in text, pictures or sound, are my own personal views.
