Me and my OH moved into a rented one bed house end of May we were quoted from E-on £50 a month direct debit as that was what the previous person was paying.

We submitted our meter readings online and now have had our bill emailed to us which i dont understand at all.

Its says:

£1,368.65
Does this mean i have a bill of £1,368.65 for 3 months usage!!! I really dont have a clue.
Im on economy 7.
The only thing on during the day is the fridge and virgin media box on standby until about 5pm when we will use the tv, modem, electric cooker for 30 mins, water heats up for an hour, mobile charger and laptop charger. PS3 an hour a day or so. Then two clothes washes a week on a 15 min cycle! And this is summer...what will it be like in winter months when im using the storage heaters.
I dont understand how previous tentant was just £50 and now i have this massive bill i dont understand.

That doesn't sound right at all for 3 motnhs usage!!!

According to eon, I have used 4500kwh of electricity in the last 12 months and that is for a 2 bed house

Did you check the readings when you moved in? Does it correspond with the opening read on your first bill? Looks as if the previous tenant did a runner without paying his bill.

Check readings now on a daily/weekly basis to see how much YOU have been spending and how it corresponds.

    You submitted your readings yourself?
Are you sure you submitted them right - did you include the last number - usually a different colour to the rest? This number is 10ths of a unit so shouldn't be submitted with the reading. If you have included this your bill will be 10x what it should be, in the case of the figures here £136, which sounds more or less what the previous people used.

  • Help!!! help!!!! ................with eon energy bills . Would learning latin be more easy to figure out? )):-{
I am in a similar position. I have religiously paid my energy bill with Eon and always corrected their meter reading. they don't give me an amended new bill but put a credit note. I have since long completely lost the plot and just paid the bill rather than figure out how the credit note works as I didn't want to be in trouble. I only recently changed supplier after using this site to switch to scottish power. The final bill that they sent me is totally confusing for period 5/6/10 to 12/7/10. and it is £38.43. According to this bill I am better off or they have given me more credit but the bill break down shows calculation from 16/2/10 to 5/6/10. As far as I am concerned I have paid my bill for june2010 and it's all done and dusted. But having spoken to EON directly in an attempt to clarify matter she says that it was not calculated correctly and hence I received credit note again. It makes me think if any of my last 2 years bill were correct. As I explained to EOn I am hardly at home and at work most of the day to have had an annual bill that was in the region >£900/- was too much.
I am just wondering whether to pay £38.43 and wash my hands of them. It is a small amount but the feeling of being ripped off for the last 2 year remains. Hence I feel in protest I don't want to pay. But trying to figure 2 yrs bill would be like finding needle in haystack.

Hope Scottish Power does not do a stinker on me like EON. Where do we get our complaints sorted for plain speaking bill?

Please any suggestions , replies would be greatly appreciated. :-(

Your post is a little confusing, but it does not really matter whether the last 2 years' bills were correct, just that the very first reading you took when you moved in and the final reading that Eon have are correct. This is the total number of units you used in the 2 years and as long as the numbers are right then you should pay for what you used.
The final bill you got (16/2/10 - 5/6/10) - did you check that the readings they used were correct? If the bill used an estimated reading then it would have been short and that's where the extra £38.43 came from.
As far as I am concerned I have paid my bill for june2010 and it's all done and dusted.

You might see it that way, but if the bill was only for 500 units and you used 600 you owe them for the 100 units you used.

If the end reading is correct, just pay the bill and get on with your life.

10,600 units would probably cost about £1350 with Eon.

But you say you are on economy 7? That should have two separate readings/consumption measurements.

Anyway, it's still alot of electricity to use this time of year in 3 months. I suggest some kind of error has occurred either with you reading the meter or how this was input/processed by Eon.
