Good Computer deal at Morgan Computers

Saw this deal on the Morgan Computers website:

http://www.morgancomputers.co.uk/shop/detail.asp?ProductID=3626&adnetwork=af

It is a E Machines 3014 for £211.49

The specs are as follows:

With 256MB RAM, 80GB drive, DVD writer, card reder and 5.1 channel sound

* Intel Celeron D346 processor (3.06GHz, 256K Cache, 533MHz Bus)
* 256MB RAM, 80GB hard disk and 16x multi-format DVD writer
* ATI X20 128MB graphics and 8-in-1 flash card reader (does not read xD)
* 5.1 sound, 5 x USB 2.0 ports, 56K modem and Ethernet 10/100 LAN

With MS Windows XP Home, MS Works 8.0 and comprehensive software suite

I think it contains an MSI RC410M-L(?) motherboard which has ATI X300SE level integrated graphics which is much better than the Intel GMA950 on most budget machines. It also has a DVD rewriter too!

Unreal Tournament 2004 should run OK on that !! :)

If you add a 19 inch widescreen like a Hannstar HW191D and another 512mb of RAM it would bring the system upto just under 385 quid which is good value.

The nearest Dell deal I could find is here:

  • My Brother in Law works for Morgans. They really do try their best to help people out. God, if it wasn't for him....my computer would never be right!!
  • They are a nice lot of people unlike some stores!!
  • Sorry to burst anyone's cloud, but I note that the ad for Morgan states that the item's classified as 'factory re-work'. Is that another phrase that means refurbished?

    I've bought a lot of stuff from Morgans in the past.

    Their suppliers often tell them to mark stuff as 'factory reworked' when the goods are often completely brand new, as they use Morgans to clear surplus stock.

    Other items are 'brand embargoed', so that you can't actually see what brand they are until they are delivered or you go to one of their shops. This is done at the instruction of the manufacturer for the same reason.

    Some goods ARE refurbished however. Thet will sometimes tell you what 'the truth' is if you phone up.

    To be honest, if an item is 'factory reworked' it can mean it is less likely to go wrong!

    As factory reworks on PC stuff are often due to failure of a plugged-in component, what difference does it make?

    I bought a pc and the mouse was faulty, instead of just replacing the mouse the firm (not Morgan) replaced the whole pc. There was nothing wrong with the PC as another mouse worked perfect.

    I would never hesitate in buying refurbished. Not only do you get the product at a knocked down price but its also been tested.

    The opps find looks pretty decent just a bit put off by only having 256 memory :-( I know its easily upgradable but thats adding to the price.

    It's funny that Morgan should come up now. After failing to get a cheap iPod shuffle, I was looking on the net to find cheap mp3 players as a present. I found a "factory re-work" 128mb at Morgan for £5 and ordered 3. I only wanted one, really, but postage was £4 so I got a couple of others.

    I have to say I was really disappointed. One was fine, box a bit rough, but ok. One was a bit scratched. One was really badly scratched, box battered - obviously very, very used. Haven't tried them all yet, but the nice one seems to work ok - it's the only one fit to give as a present. I have had factory re-work stuff before and it has always been really good. The player is no longer on the web site so it's possible I got the last few and they were the worst of the batch - even so I was pretty disappointed. I know you can return stuff up to 7 days, but due to postage it doesn't seem worth it. I was planning to e-mail Morgan about it - definitely do this now, as people seem to be saying their Customer Service is good.

    I often get stuff in store as it's pretty much next door to my work. :) If you go instore you can look at what you're buying first and prices are the same.. as for this PC.. it's still too expensive for what it is - it's a rubbish pc!
  • I like morgans, especially because I can get to their London store easily. One warning, my friend bought a PC from them once and it was loaded, i mean choco full of viruses. I had to wipe the hard disk and go from scratch it was so infected.

    Other than that.. they stock a lot of MSI products, which are usually cool and unusual ( i got a MSI bluetooth stereo adaptor for 13 quid )
  • Wow! That was quick! They seemed to have already put up a more detailed description up and corrected their typos!!

    Also please remember this a good deal for a general purpose PC espcially if you have a monitor already and are near a Morgan Computers store!! Also unlike some companies you can always take it back to the store if you have an issue with it!!
