Buchannan, Clark & Wells Scam

Ive been helping a mate who got into some debt bother about 10 years ago. He has cleared it all off & everything was fine but recently he has been getting harassed by a firm Buchannan, Clark & Wells.
When I say harassed he has had over 40 calls in a period of 35 days to different numbers.
They call up being really nice on the phone saying its an urgent financial matter & also use the name BCW.
What they appear to be doing is buying up really old debts that other firms can't collect on. This is mainly due to the debts being out of the 6 year period for legal action.
They then promise heavy legal action which they can't take.
They are very sneaky as they seem to find away to trace your telephone numbers that have never been given to them.
My mate has had calls at work, calls to his mobile, calls to his home & now calls are going to 2 previous partners.
The debt is actually cleared but they won't listen to this. it appears it was sold on by a bank before he cleared it off directly, & then sold on & sold on many times.
The way to handle this firm along with any other debt collector is never talk to them on the phone.
Never give them any details on the phone as they do call asking for you to confirm x, y & z.
Simply state you never give out details over the phone & ask for it in writing. They will keep pushing you for personal details but you should never give them anyway to anyone.
Is there any legal way to stop a firm chasing a debt if it is more than 6 years since the last payment was made?
I imagine lots of people do give in & pay these scam artists as they are so persistent.

As Freddie says, try the "Loans" board.
However your friend should send BCW a CCA request which should clear things up for both of them.0 -
