Sofa arm collapsed

Hi,
Everyone in my house seems to have the same favourite seat on the sofa. Anyway, about 6 months ago I noticed that the arm was really low down. Upon investigation (putting my hand down the side of the sofa and reaching where the arm is, I noticed broken pieces of cardboard. I can only assume that the arm is supported by cardboard ??
Anyway, has anyone else seen this before and any idea on the costs I would be looking at getting this fixed?
thanks

You'll find cardboard is used to provide a backing for and stiffen the upholstery - the actual frame will be made of timber. If the timber has collapsed then its knackered. New sofa will be cheaper - just don't pay DFS daft prices.

turn the sofa over and remove the black plastic/cloth/mesh panel from underneath. do it carefully by prising the staples out.
then you can see what is required to fix it. usually a bit of MDF and some glue/screws will do it.
(just like the modern furniture makers use).
then staple the under cover back on (although not essential).
i own a stanley staple gun.
i did the above with a newish blue leather sofa that someone gave me. i got 200 quid for it on ebay.Get some gorm.0 -
The timber is OK, it just seems to be the cardboard.
Looks like a task for a Sunday I think. Just hope I don't knacker the sofa more (I know what I am like)0 -
you should go to some modern sofa repairer shops...
