sing and sign classes anyone? (sign language for babies)

I use the Makaton signs with my daughter, mostly from Something Special and the website. She's picked it up faster than me though, and sometimes signs things that I don't understand (so I go and look them up
). It has helped a lot, and the signs she picked up earliest are the same as the words she can now say. I just wish we'd started earlier, and found a course that did it. Purple Penguin Power!

I think baby signing is great. My LO is 13 months old now and he can tell me things he wouldn't be able to say without the classes. eg we went to town today and he was doing the signs for trees and birds. I wouldn't know he knew what these things were without him being able to sign. I also think it helps a lot with frustration as well. He can tell me when he's hungry or needs a drink instead of me having to guess whats wrong. He is also starting to speak a couple of the words we are signing as well, so it does seem to help with speech.
If you can't afford to go to classes, something special on cbeebies is good, and we also got the tinytalk DVD so you can both learn it from there. The classes we went to are great though, most babies love the singing and you get to meet other mums as well.
Let us know how you get on if you decide to go.

Jellyhead, my DS used to use 'more' all the time. He used it to mean he wanted food, not necessarily more of what he had. It took along while before he started to use 'food'.
DS and DD are 18mths apart. I signed with them both but when DS started to talk we forgot to sign. Then I started to sign with DD and DS really got involved. They are very, very close. Don't get me wrong they fight too but on the whole they really look out for each other.Nevermind the dog, beware of the kids!0 -

I attended Tinytalk classes with my three children, they were fantastic. I really enjoyed them and so did my children.0

roo still doesn't sign anything more than milk. he did duck yesterday (during a song) for my husband and he does actions to boogie beebies and lots of songs - he just doesn't seem to grasp that signing is communicating and he can use it to talk. he isn't talking either. he is silent for weeks at a time. he seems to have lots of climbing and football activities in his head to the exclusion of all else at the moment!52% tight0
