I'd go with that for the first year - that has to be THE cheapest rent this side of 1975. And that bus ticket's cheap as chips, it's about £45/WEEK where I live (nowhere near london).

It's a postgrad, so only one year...and the rent is ridiculous, as the building next door is half the cost (discovered this after all the rooms had been assigned)...plus I don't "play well with others" as it were, with regards to accommodation, so the fewer people I live with the better. lol. (I like personal space too much).

And the bus ticket is student rates, but doesn't include Dundee, which is extra :S.
  • It's St. Andrews, so a lot of the prices are practically the same as London, which is appalling. Having said that, Aberdeen is similar...it can be tricky to find a decent place for a good price.

Bus stop is right outside the door of the house, and leave every 15 inutes up until about 11:30pm, so that's not too much of an issue.

Woohoo! I was right...I could probably guess what hall you were offered as well (DRA possibly? -the building next door is half the cost for a reason).
St Andrews is especially bad because it is so small, everyone wants to live in the centre, and there is such high demand for accommodation, it is also Prince William's fault for making the uni more popular.

£116 a week for self catering accommodation? It definitely isn't cheap for Scotland- in St Andrews in around 2002 the average rent for a private flat would be about £75 a week, maybe less.

From our current experience i would say don't touch the flat with damp, it does affect your health after a while, even my hubby who isn't usually sickly, after 10 odd months of a damp house it's made him ill...

I was offered "university managed accommodation", so not technically halls...ironically the building practically next door was half the price to rent (didn't know this at the time!). Anyhow, it's a non-issue as I told them I wouldn't be taking up their offer of accommodation. I'm (fingers crossed) getting a nice place out in Leuchars.

£75 per week for a private flat? I wish! lol. It's not even that cheap in Aberdeen (around £110+ there)...St. Andrews I was looking at around £600 per month to rent privately...even sharing a house *in* St. Andrews was about £450/£500 per month, not including bills.

Thanks. I have turned down that house...am about to sign a contract for a really, really nice place out in Leuchars...the hitch is that I am meant to be sharing with a friend, as I can't afford the place by myself and she keeps changing her mind about whether she's coming to St. Andrew's or not! Hopefully she'll finally decide one way or the other...if she decides she *is* coming, the lovely Leuchars house will be mine! (and hers, obviously. lol).

I lived in Dundee in 2007 and the price for a 1 bed was £390 a month then....in Aberdeen being the Oil Capital of Europe, you'd only get a studio for £450...

Oh I should have said £75 a week would be sharing a house- renting a one bed place probably would probably have been a bit more. Still gone up by a lot!
