Mobile phone recylcing

Hi all,
I'm not 100% sure this is the right place to put this thread, if not please let me and I'll move/delete it (if I can).
We recently sold an old Nokia N95 8GB to selloldphone.co.uk (who looked like a broker for green tomorrow ltd) who on their website said they would pay out £93 if it is fully working (which it was).
We have finally received the check back for £25 as they are claiming it is water damaged and hence not working (which is an outright lie). We have called them up and said we are not happy with the price offered so would like the phone returned, they say they want a £20 admin fee.
To me this seems unreasonable they are not making good on their offer and are coming across as they are simply conning us and now want money for returning our property.
So I have have 1 question and one statement:
1, Is there anything we can do about this to have the phone returned (sales of good or something like that?)?
2, I'd advice everyone to avoid selloldphone.co.uk when recycling your phone and I have since found out CEX offer a far better price for old phones that any of the mobile phone recycling websites, so I would suggest using them instead.

Not sure this is much help to you, but may assist other, more knowledgeable forum members if responding. From their Ts & Cs
"If a phone fails to meet our terms and conditions we may have to downgrade the phone accordingly. We will either issue a counter payment in the event that the phone is downgraded from Working to a lower grade, or in the event that the phone is graded as a BER phone we will be unable to offer you any price. You will be notified by post. In the rare event that a phone is sent back to the sender an administration charge of £20 will be applicable to cover all packaging, postage, recorded delivery fees and holding costs which will we hold and honour for two full business working days from contact, if no contact is made after this counter offer expires we will then process the offer as accepted accordingly. "
As far as I am aware, most phone companies will provide a counter offer if the phone turns out to be damaged. If you don't accept it, the phone will be returned to you.
Looks like you accepted the £20 admin charge as part of the Ts & Cs.
A company to be avoided if you ask me.
I hope someone more knowledgeable will provide some good advice for you soon.0 -
I had seen that, but it seems awfully high.
But more to the point the phone isn't damaged, that's my main problem. I'd be grateful for any advice. This is a system account and does not represent a real person. To contact the Forum Team email forumteam@moneysavingexpert.com0 -
I think we'll just have to chalk this up to experience and cut our losses. So I'd just like to make sure it's out there; do not use any of these sites:
greenertomorrow.org.uk
selloldphone.co.uk
mobilephonerecyclingcomparison.co.uk
Or any other item recycling site if it is registered at this address:
9 Berkeley Close The Cotswolds
Boldon
Tyne and Wear
NE35 9LQ
United Kingdom
or
31 North Road
Boldon Colleiry
NE36 9AX
Or/and if the site is under the trading name/registrant of:
Alan Lynch or/and Gordon SmithThis is a system account and does not represent a real person. To contact the Forum Team email forumteam@moneysavingexpert.com0 -
A lesson learnt I suppose, sorry for your loss, hopefully things will get better"We are the change that we seek."0
