Thinking of buying a TV/VCR combo for my daughters birthday and a PS2 so she can tape on the VCR and used the PS2 to play DVDs.
Will a PS2 play any DVD? because I am thinking of buying a recordable DVD player aswell for our lounge room.

I know I can't watch some home recorded DVDs on my PS2 (I think the ones I borrowed/tried were done on a Sky box HD then recorded to DVD on a PC).:j Westcountry man0

It will play any PAL DVD's and i think it can play copied ones, although i'm not entirely sure.
It's not region free, so NTSC will not play.
If i'm wrong, please ignor me lol.0 -
We can watch pukka DVDs on it
but cannot seem to work out the format to make our own ones that will play on the PS2
got them to play on normal DVD player though0 -
Ours plays copied ones and all regions. It plays stuff better than the DVD player does.2008 Comping ChallengeWon so far - £3010 Needed - £230Debt free since Oct 20040

I don't think the old style PS2 will play copies, but the slimline one does.0

Weve got an old style one and it plays them.littleange_com wrote:I don't think the old style PS2 will play copies, but the slimline one does.2008 Comping ChallengeWon so far - £3010 Needed - £230Debt free since Oct 20040 -

We had a old style PS2 we sold because it didn't play our copied DVDs, so I think it must depend on the model number, if you buy a new slimline version I think it should play anything pal or region free.
If you buy an older/second hand model, check the specifications in these pdfs in help and advice on the model number.
If you look in the one for the SCPH-30003 for example it doesn't mention DVD-RW/DVD-R/DVD+R/DVD+RW anywhere.
But if you look in the one for SCPH-75003 it does so I guess it depends which model you have.0
