Mobile phone recylcing

Hi all,
I'm not 100% sure this is the right place to put this thread, if not please let me and I'll move/delete it (if I can).
We recently sold an old Nokia N95 8GB to selloldphone.co.uk (who looked like a broker for green tomorrow ltd) who on their website said they would pay out £93 if it is fully working (which it was).
We have finally received the check back for £25 as they are claiming it is water damaged and hence not working (which is an outright lie). We have called them up and said we are not happy with the price offered so would like the phone returned, they say they want a £20 admin fee.
To me this seems unreasonable they are not making good on their offer and are coming across as they are simply conning us and now want money for returning our property.
So I have have 1 question and one statement:
1, Is there anything we can do about this to have the phone returned (sales of good or something like that?)?
2, I'd advice everyone to avoid selloldphone.co.uk when recycling your phone and I have since found out CEX offer a far better price for old phones that any of the mobile phone recycling websites, so I would suggest using them instead.

Oh dear.
Not much you can do I don't think, it's not worth taking them to court and they could just have poured water over the phone when they got it or it might have got damaged in transit.
Hopefully your experience will prevent others from using this company and they will go bust fairly soon.
My advice is to sell old phones (on eBay) as you are almost certain to get more that way for a small amount of hassle and you get paid before you have to send the goods.:A0 -
After some more digging I have found out that mobilephonerecyclingcomparison.co.uk is also the same company, so please don't use it to compare recycling costs. This is a system account and does not represent a real person. To contact the Forum Team email forumteam@moneysavingexpert.com0

did you write the phones serial number? I am not sure if your network would have some identifying number on file, collect it back if they have fibbed and works fine then you can go to trading standards with your evidence , if they have sent you a different phone to fob you off or the phone is yours and not damaged.Survey earnings total 2009 £417, 2010 £875, 2011 £5740

Yea but they'll charge £20 to get it back, and if it's not working (if they send back a different one) I'd have to chase them and probably not get very far.
I think we'll just have to chalk this up to experience and cut our losses. So I'd just like to make sure it's out there; do not use any of these sites:
greenertomorrow.org.uk
selloldphone.co.uk
mobilephonerecyclingcomparison.co.uk
Or any other item recycling site if it is registered at this address:
9 Berkeley Close The Cotswolds
Boldon
Tyne and Wear
NE35 9LQ
United Kingdom
or
31 North Road
Boldon Colleiry
NE36 9AX
Or/and if the site is under the trading name/registrant of:
Alan Lynch or/and Gordon SmithThis is a system account and does not represent a real person. To contact the Forum Team email forumteam@moneysavingexpert.com0 -
I also had this experience with my phone. Nokia 8500 is brand new condition. It had always had a screen protector on. I also sent it with the box and accessories, and they said that it was worth £85.00. When they received it they said that it had a very bady scratched screen and would only pay me £40 for it. I asked them to send it back, but they said they would charge an admin fee too. Mine was done through mobile exchange. Bloody rip off, and I would not advise anybody to use these mobile exchange websites, and always sell through ebay in future!0

Report this to trading standards it sounds like they are lying to reduce the price and then charge a high returning fee to get to keep a high value phone.Survey earnings total 2009 £417, 2010 £875, 2011 £5740

We rang trading standards, they basically pointed us to their (greener tomorrow) T+Cs.
The guy at Trading standards lead on that I was possibly lucky to even receive a cheque for that muchThis is a system account and does not represent a real person. To contact the Forum Team email forumteam@moneysavingexpert.com0 -

i used http://www.cashinmyfone.com/?source=webgains&siteid=3920
when i last tried to trade a phone in on the web site they said they would offer me £120
but when they got it there was something wrong with it so they offered me 35 quid for it but i had the option to have it returned
and i did and put it on ebay and made £110
just gotta watch these company's0 -
Avoid them at all costs.
£90 quoted, £59 rec'd (eventually) - I wish I had read the reviews about them before sending my phone to them0 -
I VERY nearly just did this with my blackberry, so thank you so much for sharing this information.0
