How on earth can Friday be the first day. If you put the cheque in on Friday, then Monday is one working day. Friday does not constitute one working day.

The phrase clearly says, AT THE END OF six working days.

You put it in on Friday. It then takes six working days to clear. The first day after that is Tuesday 24th. If you give me the cheque on Monday, and I say it will be clear after ONE day, do you expect it to be ready Monday or . . . well . . Tuesday. Go figure.

If you can't see that, then I'm afraid there's no helping you.

What they told you about a lesser cheque is pretty irrelevant, isn't it? You didn't deposit a lesser cheque? I'm sure if you deposited cash it would have been available immediately, but you didnt, so the point is moot.

    Wow, you really can't count.

The Friday counts as mentioned earlier, that's one.

No it doesn't. Bendix is correct.

He is also correct about his interpretation of "at the end of"

Lol, you're laughable. Even making all possible allowances & using your method of counting Tuesday 24th would still be the SEVENTH working day but you conveniently ignore that you're so desparate to appear correct.

As I said in my OP, this is a clear scam. I've been banking 25 years & this is the first time a cheque hasn't cleared within 4 days. Not quite sure what your motive is for trying so desparately to defend Santander but good luck with it.

Oh for the love of God.

Which part of 'AT THE END OF', dont you understand?

Yes, 24th is the seventh day. Which, in my version of English, is the day which comes after THE END OF six days. Ergo, the money is available for withdrawal on the 24th, the first possible time after the end of six working days.

But, hey, you carry on whining and moaning and crying scam. Ignore other posters who say I'm right, and ignore the BBA guidelines too. I'm sure your ranting and raving is serving some deep psychological purpose, the unthinking flailing of the little man against the might of big business.

Not if their fraud dept is involved (for no real reason)

hallmark, putting aside the fact you're pretending to ignore these posts; let's say you deposited it at 15:00 on the 13th - it doesn't matter, it's interchangeable.

    (A) 15:00 13th - 15:00 16th is One working day
    (B) 15:00 13th - 15:00 17th is Two working days
    (C) 15:00 13th - 15:00 18th is Three working days
    (D) 15:00 13th - 15:00 19th is Four working days
    (E) 15:00 13th - 15:00 20th is Five working days
    (F) 15:00 13th - 15:00 23th is Six working days
    (G) 15:00 13th - 25:59:59.999 (as many 9s as you like) 23th is before the end of six working days

Now go on hallmark, let's hear your argument. Tell us which statements are false.

I'm sure you'll notice I haven't mentioned the 24th, but I assume you cannot possibly be so petty to care about the "infinitesimally small" amount between the end of six working days and 00:00:00 24th.

info on clearance timescales are in the link in post 2

How do I know when the sixth day after deposit has been reached (when the cheque can no longer bounce)? Do the six days exclude non-working days?

If you pay a cheque in on a Monday (before your bank’s or building society’s advertised cut-off times) you can be sure it will not be reclaimed (without your consent) after the end of Tuesday of the following week.
