i sold an item on ebay 10 days ago and the buyer paid by cheque, i emailed buyer stating that the item will not be despatched until cheque clears.
last week buyer sent me an email stating that it had been a week since he sent the cheque and demanded to know where his item was.(also threatening negative fb. the cheque cleared last thurs so in the afternoon i went to the p/o to send off his item. postal receipt obtained stating time sent 14.21pm with usual post code and number on receipt.
fri morning arrives 8.30 am and i get a knock at the door, its the postman with the parcel that i sent the day before!!! big red sticker on it stating that item couldnt be delivered because no one was there to take receipt!!! so off to the p/o again armed with receipt and parcel.
p/o refused initially to send it again without re paying for postage. so off to sorting office i go. i complain to s/o stating that it would be very difficult to send the item to another town and return item to my house within 18hours stating that they cant deliver it!!
post office then agreed to send item out again (small parcel) but stated that the recipitant may have to pay charges at his end (including fine) because the package has already 'gone through the system'
explained this to buyer and stated if he gets charged at the door for this then he must send me a copy of the receipt and i will make a complaint on his behalf.
buyer now states that he's angry and considering leaving a negative
i think i have done the right thing just want your opinions please

Sorry I'm not sure what to say..just recently the Post office seems to be doing everything in their power to lose customers.
I have absolutely no advice except for a strongly worded letter direct to their chairman.

So you posted it and it was returned to you the next day...
When exactly did they attempt to deliver it?My TV is broken!
Edit: refunded £515 for TV 1.5 years out of warranty - thank you Sale of Goods Act! :j0 -
I think you're doing everything in your power to keep your customer happy, so don't worry. If he does leave a negative, just follow it up with an explanatory reply and buyers will not be put off.
The PO always seems to go all wrong when you're dealing with psychotic buyers/sellers. Sorry it's happening to you.:wall:0 -

thats exactly what i was arguing about at the post office, the mail was collected from the post office on thurs @ 4.30pm it would have to have travelled 40 miles (and 40 miles back) after sorting to be returned to me at 8.30ish the following morning!!!! i dont think so
on return the parcel had blue crayon over it (apparantly done at the sorting office)
so they wouldnt initially receive it back.
the package was still well wrapped and address and return clearly labled
i contacted the buyer and he states that no-one has been to his house nor dropped off the usual note to say collect from sorting office, he states that i'm lying even though i have suggested to him that i will email him a copy of the postage receipt.
it was a small package about the size of a large box of tea bags and cost £1.70 to postGive blood - its free0 -
I don't want to sound uncaring but this is your problem to sort out with the post office not your buyers. They don't know you and are probably a little suspicious of you saying that they might need to pay the postage on delivery. I would be very apologetic to the buyer and as reassuring as possible that they will not be out of pocket due to royal mails error. Personally I would probably have paid the new postage and taken the question of a refund up with the post office/royal mail.0

yes i know its my problem, but at the post office i argued the point (like i'm sure many would) that they have returned a parcel to me undeliverable, within 24 hours, different story if it had been some days i agree. actually the p/o were in agreeance and so were the sorting office however, no-one seemed to have to power to resend it without payment.
( i would have paid it if i really had to, )
when the buyers receive the item they will see that i posted it on thurs as the label (stamp) clearly shows this. what i have said is that i will reimburse them immediately then put a complaint into the post office on receipt of their charges receipt (if they do get charged). i cant do an immediate paypal transfer as they paid by cheque, so they can only trust me on this one.Give blood - its free0 -
Like I said personally I wouldn't put the buyer in that position, if they are not i and payment is required then you could end up with the parcel back again. Hope everything works, I wasn't having a go just thinking about how the buyer probably views it.0

i know you weren't having a go, but without the receipt on delivery apparantly i haven't got a complaint. thankyou for your commentsGive blood - its free0

the po dont retry to deliver, after leaving a 'couldnt leave parcel' card thu your letterbox, unless you contact themsmile --- it makes people wonder what you are up to....
:cool:0 -
i have had this problem, to the extent that 50% of my parcels were being returned, some like yours the day after sending, but i must add i have 4/5 post offices to chosse from and they only came back from the one office
..
... now in big red writing i write send it/delivery address on the front and then write the address normally and on the back i write (again in red) senders address i have also shortened it to my number and postcode (so they have to do some 'work' to find out where to send it
)
this has stoped it but the thing i was angered about was these were recorded delivery parcels  so not only did they send them back to me but i had to go to the sorting office to collect them and resend, oh well the joys of the postal service :rotfl: i now only do charity ebay but when i do sell i do the above, never had a parcel returned since :rotfl:0
