DVD Recorder (freeview) not working

I've got a DVD recorder with built-in free view but it doesn't seem to be working.
The DVD part of the box works but it's doesn't seem to be picking up the signal from the aerial anymore.
I've tried retuning the system but no joy.
Seemed to stop working when I tried it on an older TV and what I thought was a TV aerial but I think it may have been a sky extension cable??
Any suggestions as to what it could be?

First thing I would do is see if another Freeview box picks anything up on the Aerial cable. If you don't have one, try it in a plain old analouge TV and see if it can pick up clear, traditional channels (not weak/snowy/grainy). It's not unusual to start moving coax cables around and inadvertently break, displace or short the plug rendering it useless. Guess a wild guess really, but I would prove the lead you are using has some kind of usable signal on it before condemning anything.0

OK, not sure if it helps but the aerial goes into the DVD recorder then a scart goes into the back of the TV (which has built in freeview) and the TV works fine but not the DVD.
I will try it with another freeview box and see how that works.2p off is still 2p off!0 -
Clarification?
The aerial goes into a combination DVD Recorder/Freeview box, which then feeds the TV via a scart lead?
You don't have an additional short aerial feed between the dvdr/freeview and the TV? (with no Ariel feed in the TV it's built in freeview will never work)
So you are able to watch freeview off of the DVDR/Freeview box via the scart, but the DVD recorder section is not working? Or is not playing back into the scart/TV?0 -
I have got a short lead as well
The DVD recorder does feed back into the TV as I can still watch DVDs on it, it just when I try to watch any channels or record anything all I get is the black and white specs - no picture.
Does that make sense??2p off is still 2p off!0 -
So the TV works with it's inbuilt freeview, but the scart connection to the TV is shot - yes?0

The TV works fine, the problems is with the DVD recorder but not sure if it's the aerial socket thats gone or the scart.
Thanks for your patience!2p off is still 2p off!0
