SWIFT International Money Transfer Warning

Transferring money between banks using Swift normally ends up in Bank staff who do this thing maybe three times a year filling out forms to move large sums of your hard-earned halfway round the world. As others have said, the actual system for moving the money is fine, as the back offices of these banks use it all the time. Unfortunately the High Street branches, which you or I have to deal with, generally don't have sufficient training/experience to get the forms right first time and don't always know what the questions on the form mean (that "sender or receiver pays the fees" question is a case in point).

what is the best way (incurring the smallest charge) to send money to india?
I have heard of money2india by icici bank, but there are a number of complaints about their service. Any others out there?
