"the only drawback is i have to go there the morning after the wedding to clean it all up! but i dont mind hopefully people will come and help me!"
Have a word with your family/bridesmaids ....we had a hall for our evening reception and there was a similar policy...my bridesmaid asked if she could arrange the clearing up after the wedding as part of our gift as she knew we would not want to be bothered with it the next day....She took charge of everything possibly enlisting the help of a few friends to... and ensured the keys were returned safely....a lovely gesture that was much appreciated.
hi LEJC,
yea i did think of that, my mam (and 3 younger brothers) live 12 miles from me and dont drive but she'd be the first to help me! the mil2b lives 2 mins away so im sure she'll come and help.
I'll ask around! your right that is the last thing i want to be doing the day after our wedding!
thanks0 -
Hi guys, thanks to everyone for their responses.
We are *thinking* of a Sunday or weekday summer wedding either 2011 or 2012, June is usually a good bet with weather.
A rough guestimate would be 100-130 people, including people's kids & babies!
Had an idea of contacting a local country house hotel that does afternoon tea without booze for £12.50 ph, and coming to some kind of deal re. corkage & use of the room(s) afterwards. They might go for it I guess if it's a Monday afternoon.0 -
joolz i thought you only had a few weeks so didnt suggest this but i was like you, needed a pretty, big and cheap venue but had no luck after looking at hundreds(on the net!) but there was one place that didnt have prices on so i thought ive got nothing to lose if i ring them up with my budget, what i want and see if they could do me a deal thank god they did, its a little over what i put but its do able, ill just scrimp and save in other areas
i think if you want an off peak day and because its an uncertain time they will probably jump at the chance to book you
you dont know if you dont ask, you will find somewhere xxI am not bossy I just have better ideas:p0 -
farmers barns might be an option?0

Hello MSE chaps!
Thought I'd resurrect this old thread to update you - not so disheartened now
We already had our (simple) Hindu wedding in Nepal! it was extra special & planned within two days (although we took our wedding clothes with us) It was gloriously chaotic & fun!
It cost around £350 all-in including the classic rickety colourful local bus for our 20 odd guests ;-)
So... onwards to August 2012! We have a venue - not perfect but very easy! Friends of ours opened a golf course/fishing lake/ sports venue and it has acres of quiet greens, away from busy roads and a suitable clubhouse/bar. They are going to do us a full afternoon buffet at 'mates rates'0 -
