  • I have had the same problem with other companies so I do understand where you come from, however I did this offer and cancelled it after my free books. Now 3 month later I have stilll not heard anything else from them so I am happy with the deal.... maybe they have improved
  • omg i have just sent back my two pay for books which i dont want and kept the free ones i hope they dont give me loads of stick i have the post office recipt as proof of sending back and included a letter to cancel my membership i didnt want the stupid books in the firstplace but then again the free ones will come in handy :) aslong as i dont get bugged like mad!
    £1120/07,£1007.94/08,£908.50/09,£2020/10,£1319/11
    win £2012 in 2012 = £
  • I get waste envelopes from Grolier which I cut the stamps off for charity.
I often find letters etc which they have missed when opening the envelopes. The workers in the post room are encouraged to work fast and aren't as thorough as they would be if allowed to go slower. I always send the letters back to them but if you're sending a letter with a cheque or payment slip I would staple the two together.
It's a good tip to get a 'proof of postage' receipt from the post office and send a photocopy to Grolier if they say you haven't paid
  • Got Stuck With This Company A Few Months Ago ...had To Buy Books For 30 Quid To Cancel Membership!!
  • I agree with all of the above.

    AVOID GROLIER!

Had v bad experience with them. Was certain from the initial phone call that I would get set of books free even if I decided not to continue with a subscription then received several invoices for £20.

After I sent LOADS of angry emails and made even more angry phone calls I said I would just like to send everything back and get rid. They told me I couldn't as the books were now 'used'.

My response was... 'Raaaaaaaaaaar!!!'

I demanded that they check their phone records for the intial phone call as I felt I had been missold/conned and refused to pay the £20.

Finally about 6 months later got the account closed without having to pay.

    Please BEWARE! ;)

  • sounds great signed up cant wit until it arrives lol not relly after what i have read.
  • Oh dear I think I have opened up a can of worms. I just wanted to say that I have actually dealt with Grolier in the past and had no problems with cancelling etc (that isn't to belittle any of the problems that others have experienced). I do always read the small print and this offer as far as I can see is just for the free book and is not signing up to accept further books etc. I recently did the same for the Chicken Little book too and again had no problem, got my free book and no further correspondence.
I did sign up once for a free trial in the past, took the freebie and logged onto their website and requested a free courier return label to return the unwanted trial book. The courier collected a few days later (for free) and left me with proof of the return and that was the end of it so there is always that option if you do end up with trial books that you don't want and it doesn't have to cost you. Hope this helps put peoples mind at ease who have called up for the offer.
My mantra is "Never pay full price!" ;)
  • Just a quick to let you know that I have received my free book today and that there is absolutely no obligation to subscribe to Grolier further. The pack contained the free book "Pooh Visits the Doctor" which is a lovely book. There is the usual direct selling bits and an additional offer to sign up for a further free trial with Grolier but accepting this offer will not obligate you to purchase anything further.
My mantra is "Never pay full price!" ;)

Good luck with the deluge of books they WILL send you irrespective of you not requesting any and even better luck in stopping them and their bills!
