None of them really!
By far the best thing to do is install a bandwidth monitor ie Bitmeter, and go and start downloading a Linux ISO thats a couple of Gb's (found on many mirror sites).
My tests on test sites always came FAR short of the real world test that I am suggesting you do.0 -
This one you have to download and install, but it's quite thorough and seems to be accurate:

Pretty good test, however like otherposters have said a bandwidth monitor that you install to your hd is better!0 -

The BT speedtest is very useful now as it reports what your "profile" data rate is. One annoying feature in the way BT implemented RADSL (Max) is the profiling which means that your maximum data rate is set in increments based on your lowest recent sync speed. You may be syncing at 7Mb/s but could have a very low maximum data rate if there were line problems earlier causing a low sync (say a thunderstorm nearby) as recovery from the low data rate which got set immediately you synced low takes 3 days to recover.
The maximum data rate possible is 7.15Mb/s (with a good line) but you are very unlikley to see anything near that in the evenings due to contention (others getting their share of the limited total bandwidth). I have a maximum sync but rarely see over 6Mb/s.0 -
Who is your ISP?
Best way to test for speed is to stay within your ISP's network. they might have a FTP site with some files you can download.
I'm with Telewest so I use ftp://ftp.blueyonder.co.uk/store2/blueyondergames/ start a big download going and use something like netstat Live to take a average of the speed you get.
