My boys have been cashing in their old games to save for a PS3. l managed to persuade them to consider getting a 360 instead because of price. Since they have agreed l have heard stories about major crashing problems with the 360 about 7 months into its life.
Should l be worried about this ???? are their problems worse than average.
Should they get the advanced 360, they wont be using it online but lm confused about which is best.
Can someone help out in very basic mummy type terms please

Many thanks
Marie

To be honest I would not bother about the problems as apparantly they were due to the system being put in poorly ventilated areas so they were getting overheated and breaking. I have had mine since 24th December and have had no problems so far (touch wood) and it gets used quite a bit as I use xbox live for playing certain games
The machines comes with a 12 month warrenty so if the worst should happen then Microsfot will sort it out for you and from memory their is a form in the box for an extended warrenty if you decide to take it out but I have not bothered
If you decide on getting one then the core system is probably your best bet as the premium version is designed for people going on xbox live as you get a headset and hard drive to save demos etc on to it, having said that the hard drive is a godsend for me saving games rather than buying a memory card0 -
I "won" my xbox a few months ago and only had a bit of trouble when i left some games ontop which blocked a few vents and the machine just "stopped" but a simply restart and away it went again... i have since move it to a more ventalitaed area and havnt any trouble at all.
the harddrive is very good for save games and for also downloading free demos off xbox live(need broadband) saves me a few quid if i try before i buy :-D0 -
play.com sell a cooling device that fits on the back of the xbox 360 and the normal power supply plugs directly into that, it has some fans built in to keep the xbox nice and ventilated if you worry about it overheating
Here is the link for the item, don't know if it is any good though

Good choice, 360 is alot better than the ps3 (set back again, haha).
Well, if your younguns have an origional xbox, the 'advance' system will allow you to play most origional games. The advanced one comes with a HDD (hard drive) which allows you to play the origional games.
It also comes with a wireless controller, which can be very handy, but not a vital thing. They will also be needing another controller, which i think cost around £30-£35, wireless.
And the other difference is the price, around £80 i thinky.
Well, this is coming from a 13 yea old so yeah, good luck.0 -
Thanks everyone, this has put my mind at rest. They dont have any XBOX games so l think they will probably go with the core sysytem.:T0

ive had mine since the start of the year and its doing fine, if you keep it in a well ventilated area then you should be ok, i have mine at least 2 inches off the floor and its been okNo Links in Signature by site rules - MSE Forum Team 20

I'm just about to trade in my PS2 and Xbox for a 360. Originally was waiting for the PS3 but that's not going to be out until Easter next year now.
Anyway, I went into Game who offered me £139 on all my old stuff and were not exactly falling over themselves for the business. Then I went into GameStation who were very helpful and offered £212 for the old stuff!! Not only that but they offered a better deal on the 360. Guess who's getting my business.
In addition I compared that deal to an offer on play.com for the Premium 360 with PGR3 and an extra controller for £299.99 whilst selling all my old stuff via ebay. The GameStation trade in and deal was pretty much identical.
Don't worry about the crashing rumours, as was already mentioned it was due to over heating and was in just a few cases anyway.
Good luck!!0 -
If the primary reason for getting the Core bundle is money then fair enough but the Premium bundle is the better bundle. You get a hard drive, a wireless controller (instead of the wired one you get with the core), a headset, better cables for connection to TV/AV systems.
All this for only approx £70 more. The hard drive bought seperately costs aorund £70 alone so buying a core and all of the above seperately is going to work out dearer.
I've had my 360 since the beginning of December last year and never had an issue with it. As has already been stated, I think most of the issues are due to poor ventilation causing overheating.
Enjoy your purchase anyhow.0 -
One thing in favour of Game -
We were lucky enough to find one in time for Xmas last year and it froze a few months later when my son tried to load an on-line update to it. Took it to Game
and they immediately changed it for another one no questions asked. Obviously it was still within 12 mth warranty but there was no hassle of getting it repaired etc.....just swapped for a brand new machine.
Apart from the on-line thing (which may not have been an official update) they've both worked perfectly. Just be careful if you plan to get cheap original Xbox games as quite a lot of them won't work on 360.0
