Is it ok to download this and keep the free avg program as well? I have 3 trojans detected by the avg but which it won't or can't heal/quarantine/delete. I'm a bit of a scaredy cat re downloading stuff in case I infect my computer more. Is the avira program OK? Thanks.

you shouldn't have more than 1 anti virus program running at once, it can cause problems.
Personally I use avast, another freebie. Haven't had any experiance of avira.Ever stop to think and forget to start again?0 -
avast here also, fantastic antivirus, been using it for nearly three yrs without a single problem

AVG will deal with these if you boot into "safe mode"

and then do a manual scan using AVG, when it's done then reboot
Ewido (which is owned by AVG) may well delete them on its own
