cheapest place for ms word question.

hi,
i am looking for a new laptop, its probably going to have ms windows 7 on it.
my question is - i would like ms word for it. what version would you recommend and whats the cheapest place to buy it please???

  • Sorry, I have no knowledge of versions of WORD and I will never know. I use OPENOFFICE for all my work. Free and as far as I know compatible with all MS. office apps. I try to keep off any MS programme if there is an alternative - especially if it's free. Download it and try. If you're not happy - junk it and spend. Good luck with your new laptop. I want one ! Just for me.
  • If you qualify then Software4Students is going to be the cheapest, otherwise look for the Home and Student edition which you can install on up to three machines. 2007 (if you're not fussed about having the latest version) can be had a bit cheaper than 2010, somewhere like Amazon is always a good choice.

    Yes but they are limited in function, and as previous poster said Openoffice is fairly compatible but if you have Macros or more esoteric MS formatting etc then it is not truly compatible. Having said that for most use it's absolutely fine.
