I’m FUUMMMINNNGGG!!! :mad::mad::mad:
I paid for the Royal Mail Redirection service when I moved back home to my
parents house a few weeks ago and not been having any problems at all.
However today when I went to pay for something on my Nationwide debit card,
it was declined! On speaking to Nationwide they told me that all my
accounts have been frozen due to a letter being “returned to sender/no
longer at this address” in the past week.
I phoned the Royal Mail and advised that despite me paying for my mail to
be redirected that a bank statement had been returned to sender and caused
my accounts to be frozen, the lady couldn’t apologise enough and said “this
should never have happened”. The complaint was logged and will be passed
onto the local Royal Mail distribution centre etc.
I am going to Nationwide this afternoon to change my address with them,
which I was planning to do this week anyway and they should be able to
re-activate my accounts immediately.
However, I am concerned that any direct debits that were unsuccessful will
be charged for, and if Royal Mail hadn’t of made this mistake the problem
would never had occurred!
Seeing as I have paid Royal Mail to redirect my mail until I can change my
address with everyone, and they messed up, I just wondered if anyone had
any information on compensation?? Bank Charges etc?
Any help will be much appreciated!! Thanks

I'd wait to see if you do actually suffer any loss before pursuing this, you could be worrying without due cause.
If you do get hit with charges then talk to RM about it, I am sure they will cover these if you can provide proof etc.
You are not due compensation.Thinking critically since 1996....0 -

I do think you bare some responsibility as I think a few weeks is an excessive amount of time to not have informed Nationwide. What do the Nationwide T&C say? I would inform anyone else that you have forget to inform asap0 -
Why didn't you just change your address with Nationwide?I’m a Forum Ambassador and I support the Forum Team on the eBay, Auctions, Car Boot & Jumble Sales, Boost Your Income, Praise, Vents & Warnings, Overseas Holidays & Travel Planning , UK Holidays, Days Out & Entertainments boards. I went on holiday a day after moving house, as you are aware it is impossible to rack brains to think of all the people you have to change addressses with! I chose to use the RM service to cover myself for any mail over the next 3 months, to allow any letters that do get redirected I have a chance to change address with those. I work long hours and struggled to get to the Nationwide branch to change my details prior to going on holiday, and this has happened 2 days after getting back.
I'm just concerned at what ELSE hasn't been redirected, the whole point of the redirection was to catch any mail that I hadn't changed address for so I could change it.
Accounts have been re-activated now, fingers crossed no further mail goes missing!
Thanks :T0 -
I had a few letters from Nationwide on my return from holiday as well as other redirected mail - the service was activated 2-3 weeks ago, this one had obviously slipped through the net at the sorting office. I did check to see what letter it was and the guy @ Nationwide informed me it was a standard statement letter which would be classed as "standard" mail.0

Not informing nationwide within a few weeks is a breach of your terms of conditions; furthermore; compensation for what? You havent even incurred any charges that I can see. Direct Debits would probably not have been affected.
Also to add RM redirection works only on standard RM mail. Banks often use special/registered delivery and non RM delivery services so redirection is pointless.
Also who is to say the mail wasnt sent before the redirection took effect
sorry but what services do banks use to deliver to residential addresses except RM?
Ive never seen any other from of delivery used
RM redirection works on Special delivery and recorded mail0
