Stranraer to N. Ireland day trip

We are having a week in SW Scotland and wondered if anyone had taken the (Stena line) day trips to the Giant's Causeway, or Belfast?
Was it any good? Are there any alternative ferry companies operating trips out of Stranraer? (can't find any online)
Also (silly question maybe) would we have to take our passports?

You dont need a passport for N Ireland, you can sail from Cairnryan (near Stranraer) to Larne in N Ireland with P & O Ferries or from Stranraer to Belfast with Stenaline.
I live in SW Scotland so if you need any help just ask!0 -

But you do need photo ID, so a passport would be useful!0 -

Foot passenger or with car?0 -
foot passenger - Stenaline do trips where they include a coach trip when you get to Belfast0

The link below will take you to stena line. It gives you a good idea as to what is available.

Just wanted to say we got back from our holiday in the Galloway area of Scotland (SW) and it was lovely!
It was the week ending 28 August and the weather was sunny and only rained a bit on 2 days, whereas i have discovered back in the Midlands/South of England it was non-stop rain!. I understand that in Dumfries and Galloway the area is sheltered somehow and they often have better weather.
The scenery there is beautiful, there are forests to walk in with wildlife I have not seen anywhere else and lovely beaches with views of mountains (over in Cumbria I suppose). Plenty of historical stuff to look at too, if you like that sort of thing, castles, ancient monuments etc. Pretty little towns too, like Kirkcudbright.
The people are friendly, roads are clear, and all so QUIET! I think its because a lot of people aren't aware of the area, so maybe they don't get many tourists. OK its not got the big lochs and mountains of further north in Scotland, but it is certainly worth visiting.
PS we did the Belfast city day trip with Stena line and it was good, really, really interesting.0 -
Where did you stay? I'm thinking I may go to that area for a few days next week!0

Stayed near Dalbeattie, but to be honest if I went back I would stay nearer Castle Douglas or Kirkcudbright, as these as nicer towns. Anywhere near the sea woud be nice though.
